Ryan Catholic College, Kirwan was established in 1979 and has as its foundational story the well-known "Journey to Emmaus" from the Gospel of Luke. About the role

Ryan Catholic College, Kirwan is seeking and experienced and dedicated Bus Driver and Maintenance Officer. This role is a full time, permanent position commencing 16 November 2025. 

This full-time dual role at Ryan Catholic College combines student transport and facilities maintenance. Mornings and afternoons are spent as part of a dedicated bus driving team, ensuring safe and professional transport for students. Between school runs, you'll work as a Maintenance Officer, supporting the upkeep and development of college facilities to create a safe, functional learning environment. Ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work and thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.

Key Accountabilities

Typical duties performed may include, but are not limited to:

  • Safely operate daily AM/PM school bus runs, excursions, and ad hoc transport needs
  • Plan and manage transport schedules, conduct vehicle safety checks, and ensure compliance with Department of Transport standards
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs across College buildings, grounds, and facilities
  • Support cleaning, equipment setup, and event logistics
  • Ensure all tasks meet Workplace Health and Safety requirements
  • Carry out additional duties as directed by the Facilities Manager or Principal

The position will be required to work within Workplace Health and Safety guidelines.

Any other task as reasonably directed to assist the effective functioning of the school.

Mandatory Criteria

  • Current MR Driver’s Licence
  • QLD Transport Driver Authority (Operator Accreditation)
  • Ability to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner
  • Ability to work on a flexible roster within the hours of 6am – 5pm Monday to Friday
  • Employment could be subject to a satisfactory pre-employment medical.
  • Current Working with Children Suitability Card - The successful candidate will require a paid Blue Card before commencement as per the No Card, No Start policy developed by Queensland Government

This position will be subject to a pre-employment medical assessment to support the selection process. 

Desirable Criteria

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in bus driving, with a strong safety record.
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certificate
  • Relevant certificate or trade qualifications
