Townsville Catholic Education (TCE) is seeking a passionate and experienced Early Career Teacher Specialist (ECTS) to support the development of early career teachers and Permission to Teach (PTT) candidates across the Diocese. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity to lead mentoring programs, build communities of practice, and deliver impactful professional development aligned with system priorities.
About the role
As a key member of the Learning and Teaching Team, you will:
- Mentor Early Career Teachers and PTT candidates, especially in regional and remote schools
- Facilitate communities of practice and support for mentors
- Deliver professional development and formation aligned with AITSL guidelines
- Support registration and transition processes with the Queensland College of Teachers
- Collaborate across teams to promote teacher capability and professional growth
- Uphold Catholic values and contribute to a culture of care, learning and safety
Key Accountabilities
- Collaborate with the Team Leader Career Development to deliver the Permission to Teach (PTT) Program
- Provide mentoring and support to Early Career Teachers and PTT candidates, particularly in regional and remote schools
- Facilitate communities of practice and support networks for mentors and PTTs
- Design and deliver professional development aligned with system priorities and AITSL guidelines
- Assist PTT candidates with registration and transition processes in line with Queensland College of Teachers requirements
- Support mentors in adopting hybrid mentoring models and effective coaching strategies
- Develop and maintain high-quality resources and systems to support teacher development
- Promote teacher capability through structured mentoring and capacity-building initiatives
- Collaborate across directorates and with external stakeholders to enhance program delivery
- Uphold Catholic values and contribute to a culture of care, learning, and professional excellence
About You
Experience
- Extensive teaching and mentoring experience across multiple learning phases
- Strong knowledge of curriculum, pedagogy, and teacher standards
- Experience in professional learning design and delivery
- Excellent interpersonal and time management skills
- A collaborative, values-driven approach to education
Mandatory Criteria/Professional Registration/Other
- Tertiary qualifications in education
- Registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Queensland College of Teachers
- Current Driver’s Licence
- Ability to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in Catholic education systems
- Co-teaching or coaching experience
- Familiarity with hybrid mentoring models
