Ryan Catholic College, Kirwan was established in 1979 and has as its foundational story the well-known "Journey to Emmaus" from the Gospel of Luke. About the role

Ryan Catholic College, Kirwan is seeking and experienced and dedicated Groundsperson/Maintenance. This role is a full time, fixed term position for 12 months commencing  from 22nd April 2025 until 19 April 2026.

The Groundsperson/Maintenance, under the direction of the Principal, contributes to the effective and efficient operation and environment of the school by providing a high level of maintenance and upkeep of the school grounds. The Groundsperson/Maintenance will be required to assess repairs quickly to enable maximum safety at all times. The Groundsperson/Maintenance will work with limited supervision under the direction of the Principal.

Key Accountabilities

Typical duties performed may include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain lawn, trim trees overhanging branches, hedging, blowing down and outdoor vacuuming
  • Operations of different machinery, ride on and walking behind scrubbers, sweepers and mowers etc.
  • Assist with constant upkeep and upgrading of College grounds and gardens, including fertilising, weeding, poisoning, landscaping and minor irrigation checks and repairs as required
  • Bin runs, rubbish removal, tilling sandpits and pressure cleaning
  • Assist with setting up for College functions and displays
  • Carry out minor repairs to the College property and equipment, including: but not limited to
  • Assist with marking playing fields
  • Routine maintenance and cleaning of machinery and sheds, including external cleaning
  • Assist with general maintenance, upkeep and cleaning duties as reasonably requested

Other related duties as reasonably requested by the Grounds Supervisor and Facilities Manager 

Mandatory Criteria

  • Current Working with Children Suitability Card - The successful candidate will require a paid Blue Card before commencement as per the No Card, No Start policy developed by Queensland Government.
  • Undertake Workplace Health and Safety Training
  • Current Driver’s Licence
  • Ability to travel within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner

This position will be subject to a pre-employment medical assessment to support the selection process. 

Desirable Criteria

  • Relevant certificate or trade qualifications
  • Horticultural, landscaping or green keeping experience
