Ryan Catholic College, Kirwan was established in 1979 and has as its foundational story the well-known "Journey to Emmaus" from the Gospel of Luke. About the role

Ryan Catholic College, Kirwan is seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Cleaner. This role is a full time, permanent working 38 hours and will commence as soon as practicable.

The Senior Cleaner contributes to the effective and efficient operation of Ryan Catholic College by providing a high level of cleanliness to the College facilities. The Senior Cleaner will work with a team to provide a clean, safe and pleasant environment for students and employees and create a physical environment that is conducive to learning and safe student movement.

The Senior Cleaner will work with limited supervision under the direction of the Facilities Manager.

Key Accountabilities

Typical duties performed may include, but are not limited to:

  • Cleaning of college facilities in accordance with schedules and routines or as directed by the Facilities Manager or Principal
  • Ensuring all work tasks comply with Workplace Health and Safety guidelines by liaising with the Work, Health and Safety Officer including MSDS,  SWMS and PPE
  • Actively promote Health and Safety, and report any incidents directly to the Facilities Manager
  • Ensure that all staff wear all appropriate PPE
  • Ensure all assigned duties are carried out, and that resources are efficiently utilized
  • Ensure that the school’s policies and procedures are adhered to by staff.
  • Unlock and disarm alarms at the commencement of morning shifts
  • Secure the College and arm alarms at the completion of evening shifts
  • Manage cleaning schedule for special events
  • Monitor and assist in planning for holiday work requirements (bi/annual cleaning work)
  • Monitor and report absenteeism to the Facilities Manager
  • Organise and monitor external suppliers including Hygiene, Carpet, Soft & Hard Furnishing Cleaners
  • Where required, gather and provide information on a daily, monthly and annual basis, including schedules, consumable issues and usage etc.
  • Manage periodic audits and compliance with Cleaning Schedules, adjust as required
  • Mentor new staff into College on best practice and procedures
  • Coordinate service and maintenance of equipment, report faulty equipment to the Facilities Manager within 12 hours of breakdown
  • Liaise with the Facilities Manager on a daily basis regarding current tasks, and assist in the planning of future tasks
  • Act as a communication conduit between management and staff
  • Maintain and control use of stock, equipment & consumables including safe storage
  • Promptly request purchase of consumables, equipment and materials
  • Work with members of other teams as required
  • Other reasonable duties as determined by the Facilities Manager

Mandatory Criteria

  • Current Working with Children Suitability Card or eligibility to obtain same - the successful candidate will require a paid Blue Card before commencement as per the No Card, No Start policy developed by Queensland Government
  • Hold a current driver’s licence (manual preferred) with an excellent driving record
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner
  • Ability to work a split shift Monday to Friday,  4:30am – 8:30am and 3:00pm-6:36pm
  • This position will be subject to a pre-employment medical assessment to support the selection process. For some positions, it may be necessary for the successful applicant to be immunised against certain preventable diseases in order to minimise the risk of transmission. The following will be required for the role of Cleaner: Hepatitis A & B Vaccinations. 

Desirable Criteria

  • Ability to operate commercial and industrial cleaning equipment
  • Familiarity with Safety Data Sheets for chemical substances used and appropriate storage of same.
